Is it apropriate to wear fishnet (or pattern) pantyhose in office or official occasions?

I’m not talking like fishnet and miniskirt, but, for instance, with apropriate length pencil skirt? Does the pantyhose have to be smooth conservative with no pattern? Or can it be worn in office, meetings, conference? In public in general?

With the new legwear revolution, many of the mew patterns are acceptable if they are in muted and conservative colors. They are even showing fishnets now in colored like coffee, beige, maroon, bottle green etc. Check out stockingstore.com under the fishnet and textured tights categories. They have many, many choices I have been wearing coffee fishenets and patterns this year, after seing a Kohls Department stor ad on TV with a woman wearing them with a business ssuit to a meeting.

  1. I think you could wear it if the pattern wasn’t like over the top or like a really bright color. I wouldn’t reccomend wearing fishnets but I;m sure patterned/textured stockings would be fine.

  2. All honesty I have not seen patterned hose in corporate America.

  3. Hmmm. . . I wouldn’t recommend fishnet, but pantyhose and stockings with patterns would probably be appropriate, as long as the rest of your outfit is modest.

But yeah, fishnet I think is a big no-no.

  5. I would not wear fishnet in the office or any work-related event. Perhaps a conservative pattern (for example cable knit tights), but anything than that is too much -no You could do fishnet or pattern with trousers though, and that is a really cute look. You do not need to be sexy at work, save it for the weekends. But I am a lawyer on the east coast. A marketing person on the west coast might be able to get away with a more seductive look (but how would that advance your career or project a professional image?).

  6. I believe its appropriate if your skirt is long and only a little leg is showing. With a short mini skirt – leave it for after hours.

  7. maybe not fishnets, they’ve fallen too much into a sexual reference. Get some nice wool tights with a lacy pattern to wear with skirts, or a color that compliments your shirt and/or accessories. Lucky magazine is a great fashion mag, everything they show is expensive but you can get some really good ideas for professional yet fun outfits

  8. They make actual pantyhose that has the fishnet pattern. They are really nice too cuz it’s stronger than actual pantyhose. I found mine at walmart awhile ago. I’ve worn mine at my office job.

  9. I’ve worn fishnets with a long, black skirt (that had a slit from the knee down) and it looked pretty classy. It really depends on the rest of the outfit… shoes can be as important as the skirt in determining if it’s appropriate. I think that fishnets can be professional, but "pothole" tights are a bit "too much" for almost anything other than the bedroom or a goth/fetish club.

  10. As a general rule, in the corporate environment, conservative is better. However, I know that when most people think "fishnet" – they’re thinking of those black mesh "fredericks of hollywood" type things (and I hope that’s not what you mean!!) They do make some fishnets that are actually pantyhose, and as long as they’re not some obnoxious color, or too boldly patterned AND your skirt was an appropriate length (at the knee!!), and the rest of your outfit was reasonably conservative, I don’t see why not.

For example: A black suit (knee length skirt & jacket) with a conservative blouse, subtly patterned hosiery and nice shoes would look very striking.

The best rule for corporate wear I can give you is this: if you have to question it, you probably shouldn’t wear it.

  11. With a pencil lenght skirt and knee high or calf high boots. Generally in a black or brown color. You can layer it with a brighter color such as a plum or burgundy hose underneath to add a dash of color. But they are best worn with only a little bit showing.
